Weekly Photo Challenge: The Golden Hour
The story of these sunset pictures, taken near Ullapool in 2012, is told in a previous post – a couple have appeared before but never in this full sequence at The Golden Hour. The view is north along Loch Broom towards the Summer Isles. I guess they cover a period of about 20 – 30 minutes; unfortunately I was not prepared so they are handheld and each is taken from a slightly different position.
The photos were taken over a year ago so I thought I should make the effort to take one specifically for the challenge. This entailed getting up ‘early’ on Saturday for the morning Golden Hour, in an attempt to capture the dawn light in monochrome. For the first time in a number of years we are having a proper summer in Northumberland; it is 7am and the view is across the fields next to home; the shadows are still long, there is a mist in the distance which will soon burn off and the sheep are still slumbering – which begs the question, what do they count when they cannot sleep?
For some reason I have been humming this whilst creating the post – all but one may look seriously strange but they still sound wonderful:
wonderful show!
Thanks Tish – mother nature is a wonderful thing (or did you mean the Mammas and Papas :-))
Very beautiful indeed. I’ve spent a lot of time in Ullapool and also watched a lot of sunsets from the same beach, it brought back a lot of memories. The only thing you didn’t mention is the midgies, probably best not to mention them. And you probably won’t want me to say this but, because of this post I’ve decided to go to Ullapool one day this week, so for that and this post, thank you.
Lucky man Mark – have a great time. The last time we were there it was surprisingly midge free. Thanks for the generous comments. Incidentally, not sure if I have commented on your blog recently but every comment I make on every post goes straight in the recipient’s spam folder. Askimet is doing this to loads of people at the moment.
Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
Many thanks, much appreciated
I wanted to inform you that I nominated you for the Super Sweet Blogging Award.
You will find more information on the award here:

Congratulations,
rabirius.
Many thanks, much appreciated. I am not very good at this – I always intend to follow up but due to other pressures never get round to it. Apologies in advance if this nomination suffers the same fate.
No problem. I am quite new at blogging (my blog is now about half a year old) and wanted to try it. But I saw it more as giving a compliment to some of the blogs I especially like. So I don’t mind if you never get round to it.
Sky, sky, sky – I just can’t get enough of it! No 2 photos are ever the same. These are truly the golden hour – well captured.
Many thanks Mary, glad you like them. Thanks for stopping by.
my favourite is 104
Thanks Graham, mine too – the remains of the day.
The Ullapool shots are wonderful and make me long to be back up North for the stunning sunsets! The last shot is beautifully composed…..and lets hope this glorious summer continues 🙂
They have been making me restless too – we are planning to head back to Arisaig early September by which time no doubt the summer will be over 😦
Oh I wouldn’t be too sure. September sometimes gives great weather up there! Just cross your fingers and make an offering to the sun god. Is summer still with you in Northumberland?
Hope you are right – I must think of something/somebody to sacrifice 🙂 The weather down here has been iffy all weekend – still warm but heavy rain overnight Friday and looks to be threatening more today 😦
