Travel theme: Sculpture
As the name suggests, the Royal Cast Collection in Copenhagen does not display original sculptures but plaster casts of statues and reliefs from around the world. The work on display ranges from the traditional to the seriously weird. It is a sizable and wide ranging collection occupying several floors in a converted waterfront warehouse at Vestindisk Pakhus, Toldbodgade. On the day we visited we had the museum and its vast collection virtually to ourselves; ironically just along from the museum, the solitary figure of The Little Mermaid was surrounded by camera-wielding Japanese tourists and Europeans gorging on burgers, oblivious to her charms (there is a picture here).
