More about …

… the weather.  On Monday night we had the first serious snow of winter – unannounced, it took us sufficiently by surprise that the Good Wife had to abandon her car and walk home, about a mile up the hill to Beaufront Woodhead.  The car was retrieved the following day, but the snow and and ice hung around for another couple of days.  Later in the week, the BBC/Met Office website was finally issuing Yellow Weather Warnings for severe snow in the northeast.  In the event, nothing arrived.  The same website contains hourly forecasts for the following fourteen days – generally speaking, they turn out to be nonsense.  Why the pretence – rant over – have a happy week, everyone, regardless of the weather.

Monday afternoon

Tuesday morning – the same scene – a world changed

Hexham golf course – closed – Wednesday

Thursday morning – firebird heading for warmer climes

Friday morning – fire in the woods

Beautiful photos, Robin and I really liked seeing the two contrasting ones of the same location. Sorry The Wife had to walk and that the weather predictions are so far off. I always find it amusing when my app says there’s no chance of rain, which is usually true here, and it’s raining or vice versa. But I also know how quickly atmospheric conditions can change. I guess that’s why it’s “predicting” not “guaranteeing.” 😉. Hope you’re both enjoying the day despite the weather.

Thanks for the kind words, Janet. Yes, forecasting is an impossible job – I generally find that my tolerance of this, and many other things in life, declines in direct proportion to my age 😀
A grand day thanks – a lively walk near Hadrian’s Wall in a chill wind this morning – hope your day and and week are all good. All the best, R.

What a gorgeous winterscape! 🙂 Well, your wife might not have thought it so gorgeous to have to hike home through that.
Here, we’ve had our first freeze for a few nights, down to -10 C. But the days always were above 0. Snow there has been none yet. It’s way too dry for snow, and rain at that. We really need precipitation.
Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon and evening, and stay warm,
    Pit

Many thanks Pit. Your temperatures sound a lot more impressive – the snow has gone and the temperatures have risen slightly. It’s a shame – if I can’t get out on the motorcycles or play golf because of the cold and rain, then it might as well snow. Hope you have had a great weekend. All the best, R

Our weekend was lazy, and that means it was GREAT! 😀
    Best,

So often it takes us by surprise, Robin. Poor wife!

Indeed it do, Jo 🙂 I have four motorcycles and a Lotus in the garage, none of which could be used to rescue her. I get reminded of their unsuitability every so often 😀

Sublime winter scenes, Robin. Love that fire in the wood. And as for BBC weather forecasts, they seem to be getting worse. Someone recommended the Norwegians to me, and they seem quite good: YRWeather. They might get a better handle on things in your neck of the woods.

Many thanks Tish. I will try YRWeather – I am fond of all things Scandinavian. All the best, Robin.

What beautiful photographs! Snow in black and white is particularly stunning, as is the contrast of a blue sky. It’s amazing I think, how the world can look so different in B&W. I feel for your good wife, it’s not a pleasant thing to have to do especially if you have bags!

Many thanks – I agree – snow is just perfect for mono.
She was a tad disgruntled – no chance of me going to the rescue in a Lotus or on a motorcycle 😉

No, sadly not, but perfect summer rides and something to look forward to! 😃
