Oh, marvellous- I would love to see the magical, mystical Ring of Brodgar, but I shall content myself with your two varied images

Many thanks Sue, it is a magical place.

And out of interest are you returning to Ard Neakie?

      • northumbrianlight · April 26, 2017

Not on this trip Sue. However, I am in touch with Strathnaver Museum about reproducing some images of Alexander Mackay so a virtual return may pop up in the future. The Ferry House story will appear in the sequel to Golf in the Wild.

De-light-full photos, Robin. (Sorry, it’s early and I can’t help myself sometimes.) 🙂 When I think of Scapa Flow, I think of WWII and the German sub that got in there, but I didn’t really realize where it was.

Many thanks Janet. The wreck of HMS Royal Oak, a designated war grave, is indicated by a marker buoy which is a few hundred meters to the right of the oil rig.

    Stunning imagery!

Fabulous Robin! You’ve captured the mood and majesty of the islands 🙂 Love the reflections in the third image!

Many thanks Sarah – some would say we have been unlucky with the weather but actually the snow has made it more exciting and the islands even more photogenic.

I love a bit of dramatic weather 😀 My sister has been enjoying snow on Dartmoor! It briefly snowed here but not enough to settle. I got some great skies above the rapeseed fields in the Cotswolds on Monday though 😀

Love the second Ring of Brodgar image and the sky and reflections image – something to be said for a good bunch of clouds. MM🍀

Those monoliths seem aware. Sentinels of a lost country. Awe-inspiring, even for a sceptic? 😉

    • northumbrianlight · April 30, 2017

Yup, awe-inspiring, even to an old sceptic like me 😉 It is a magical place and I will miss it – just arrived back in Northumberland after two days of travel, the only downside of going that far north (by car). Nevertheless, we are already making plans to return – a combined trip with the Shetlands appeals.

Wonderful, Robin! 🙂 I especially like the rigs on Scappa Flow.

    • northumbrianlight · May 10, 2017

Thanks Jo – those rigs look especially good when they are lit up at night.

Very nice photos, Robin. We visited the Orkneys two weeks ago and we loved every second of it. We sure want to go back and maybe combine it with a visit to the Shetlands.

    • northumbrianlight · June 14, 2017

Many thanks – exactly our thinking – we must go back and wouldn’t it be good to include the Shetlands. Great minds, great place 🙂
