A walk in the park …
Local authorities can get Christmas displays spectacularly wrong but the lights in the Sele at Hexham always please – plain, simple, white and strung from the trees against the backdrop of the Abbey and Beaumont Street. Last night I took a walk in the park armed with the Fuji – there are probably laws against this sort of thing. As it turned out, it was well timed. Today heavy rain has returned followed by snow, the wet slushy variety, all of this to coincide with the Hexham Christmas Market – plenty turned out but there was no temptation to linger as water dripped from the awnings and then down your back. I will probably acquire the Christmas spirit before the 25th, but first it must stop raining:
I then wandered down Beaumont Street, eerily quiet and closed to traffic in preparation for the Christmas Market:
Thanks for adding to my Christmas spirit. It’s warm and cloudy today. I’m hoping for snow by Christmas, but we’ll see. Have a great weekend whatever you do.

Many thanks Janet – likewise 🙂
Those are tasteful decorations: simple and elegant. The photos of the empty town are wonderfully eerie. Hopefully the rains will disappear from your skies by Christmas. 🎄
Thanks Julie – no rain at the moment but quite a bit of snow which at least is pretty to look at 🙂
Just beautiful. I have put off going to see the fabulous (but slightly over the top) Christmas lights that residents of one inner city street put on, because we have had so much rain. Hope your skies clear soon.
Thanks Su – I shouldn’t complain really, at least we are unlikely to be flooded where we live, unlike quite a few people not very far from us.
I saw some images of the flooding on our news and it looked devastating. I’m glad you were safe from it.
Lovely in B&W with a hint of red.
Many thanks, much appreciated.
Looks really pretty.
Have a wonderful advent time,
Pit
Many thanks Pit and all the very best to you and yours.
You’ve got snow, Robin? Happy to say it didn’t travel this far 🙂 Lovely atmospheric shots.
Many thanks Jo – not a huge amount but it froze overnight so is still there this morning. As it fell from the sky: https://www.polaroidblipfoto.com/entry/2122645430712929438
Very pretty! 🙂 Brrrh!
Love the lights in black and white. I’m on the subway heading into LIC for some more night shots of the city and anything else that peaks my interest 😊
Many thanks Cate – hope you had a good trip and I look forward to the results.
Super shots, Robin. Very festive without being fussy.
Many thanks Jean – Hexham always does a classy job 🙂
these B&W are great in bringing some Christmas feeling despite the weather here! Somehow it’s more Christmassy seeing the decorations in your photos. Thank you for the spark!
Thanks Leya, the Hexham lights do tend to look festive regardless of the weather. I don’t know when they first started decorating the trees in the park but whoever came up with the idea was inspired.
