Cruel sport

For years they have ignored me, now they want to be friends.  It started as an innocent discovery – I was walking to the end of our driveway to put rubbish in the bin.  It was carried in a stiff plastic bag which crackles in the wind and this sound must share the same properties as the bags used by the local farmer to carry their feed. This sudden friendship feels a little sinister, like something from the mind of Guillermo del Toro (his Pan’s Labyrinth period)  – click on the image to get the full cinematic effect:

Sheep selfieI can now summon them from across the field at will but of course it all ends in disappointment – it is a cruel sport:

Nice picture, pretty freaky with all looking at you.

Thanks Sebastien, much appreciated. Sorry for the slow reply – just found your comment in my spam.

    Cruel, you are….

  3. greenmackenzie · March 14, 2014

    Too funny…..what power you wield!

Great image Robin. I’ve done that in the car before now down the side of a field. The car I was driving obviously sounded like a tractor or beaten up land rover…….MM 🍀

Many thanks MM. They are supposedly brighter than they look but the evidence is stacked against them 🙂

Oh, that look of disappointment! 😦

Naughty Robin, teasing the poor sheep. I know they’re easily fooled. They need a few goats among them to keep them up to speed (I have borrowed this from Tuareg philosophy on the general deficiencies of sheep intelligence). I also find myself thinking of Wallace and Gromit – Shorn!

One day, you’ll get yours in return. 🙂

It’s your magnetic personality that draws those sweet wooly animals to you. A great capture, I felt as if they would spill out of the computer.

    • northumbrianlight · March 15, 2014

Thanks Cate – I think they only have one thing on their mind…..food 🙂

Love those expressions on their faces – ‘you mean we walked all this way for nothing?!’ Cruel, yes, but revenge is sweet (at least the first time).

Comically sinister. That photo made me laugh out loud. I can hear them baa, “Rooooobiiiin. Rooobiiiiin.”

    • northumbrianlight · March 15, 2014

Thanks Julie – the second time they definitely started with ‘Baaaaa….’ and it ended with ‘…ard’ . Couldn’t quite make out the bit in between 😉

Wonderful! Your top shot is great viewed large. This reminds me of a certain friend of mine

    • northumbrianlight · March 15, 2014

Thanks Graham – there is a certain sameness to these beasts and the way they act – just like sheep 🙂

    I love that top photo-the b/w gives it a bit of a sinister feeling-like they are watching you every . . . . single . . . minute . . .

    • northumbrianlight · March 16, 2014

Thanks Meg – almost Hitchcockian, his unmade sequel to The Birds 🙂

  16. elleturner4 · March 16, 2014

Oh what fun you could have! Don’t think I could resist summoning them occasionally! 🙂

    • northumbrianlight · March 17, 2014

Keep it up and I think I would be shot – “causing distress to expectant ewes” 🙂

      • elleturner4 · March 17, 2014

They might be twice expectant…first with the lamb and second with your summoning! 😀

Glad to have made you laugh 😀 I am genuinely looking forward to seeing your sheep images Malin – your creativity applied to this subject will be very interesting.

      • Malin H · March 20, 2014

Yes, sheep (I wrote sheeps earlier, and I guess that’s not right ha ha). I think I’ll post them later this evening. 😀
