Along the Tyne
I am on rations; I have been told that I have been eating and drinking far too much over the festive period but I know this to be completely untrue. It is a well-known fact that around the winter solstice, trousers shrink and only begin to expand again as the light returns. Consequently, in order to stretch my clothes, we embarked on a long walk around Corbridge and Riding Mill along the banks of the Tyne. It seems to have worked, I am sitting much more comfortably; I think I will reward my scientific endeavours with another mince pie 🙂
Happy New Year all!
We picked up the Tyne at Corbridge heading east towards Newcastle and leaving the river at Riding Mill Station opposite Styford Hall; the return route was along the A695 (click on the images to enlarge).
loving the long shadows, brilliant!
Many thanks, these short winter days have their compensations.
Yeh, we’re on no puddings, no garlic bread, no nothing nice until the situation improves markedly… thank you for these photographs, they recall to me a beautiful part of the world I used to travel across some years ago, and sometimes visit too.
I was genuinely prompted by your walks along the Tweed, it is good to be near water (rivers being second best to the sea).
Oh don’t! I’m on a mission to eat my weight in Christmas pud, and I’m almost there 🙂
I’ve walked that route. Perhaps I should repeat it a time or three!
Dare I admit that in the near 20 years we have lived here, we have never done that route before. We always used to walk west, either south of the river towards Devil’s Water or north towards the Roman site.
Keep attacking that pud, you will have it beat soon I am sure 🙂
Looks like you had some good light on your walk. Fantastic photos, as usual, Robin. Le Husband and I did the same yesterday – went for a long walk along the Danube to stretch out the suddenly tight trousers…and then we rewarded ourselves with pizza and cheesecake. ‘Tis the season. 😉
Thanks Julie – walking the Danube sounds much more romantic. It was a fabulous light yesterday but the dark has returned today……along with the tight trousers 🙂
Very beautiful shots Robin! And I agree with your shrinking pants comment, sadly! No more chocolate chips for me I’m afraid 🙂
Thanks Tina………chocolate chips, now that DOES sound interesting 🙂
Lovely landscapes-those clouds are spectacular-
Many thanks and Happy New Year!
Happy New Year 2014!
And all the very best in 2014 to you and yours Mary.
so gracefully classic!
Many thanks, much appreciated.
