This old bruiser of a tree sits in the field opposite our home; when I first looked all I could see were big clubbed feet but the longer I stare, the more small faces start creeping out of the woodwork. There is one particularly nasty one lurking deep in the dark shadows and the Cheshire Cat is peeping around the corner – can you see them or have I been overdosing on the Amarone? This post is inspired by Malin’s love of trees and her fabulous photographic blog at Malin H Photography:

Oh wow. You’re right. (And since I found your blog through Malin’s blog, I think you’re right about that, too.)
Excellent Cindi – welcome to the madhouse 🙂
Yes, I can see them – there’s one in particular I kept returning to – a guy saying ‘oh… how did I get stuck here?’ or whistling perhaps! Sorry, I gave up on the Cheshire cat. 🙂 But there’s a bat crawling out of a small hollow on the left.
Wonderful Safia – the more you stare/drink the more there is 🙂 I will keep looking for that bat. The Cheshire Cat is still there but in true Alice style it is beginning to fade:
Alice: Why, why you’re a cat!
Cheshire Cat: A Cheshire Cat. [starts to disappear] All mimsy were the borogroves…
Alice: Oh, wait! Don’t go, please!
Cheshire Cat: [reappears] There you are! Third chorus…
Alice: Oh, no, no. Thank you, but I just wanted to ask which way i ought to go.
Cheshire Cat: Well that depends on where you ought to get to.
I can see the sinister one in the depths, but not the Cheshire cat. That Amarone must be potent. 😉
It is wonderful stuff….it introduces you to people and places you would otherwise never have dreamed of 🙂
I love the Cheshire Cat, and what a busy tree….so filled with faces it’s hard to know where to start!
Glad you could see it…….and the more you drink the more there are 🙂
I’m thinking of the scary scenes in Sleepy Hollow where the whatsit horseman (Christopher Walken) bursts out of the tree roots, and there’s all sorts of gruesome remains inside. Thank you for that, Robin!!!
Always happy to oblige Tish 🙂 I think Christopher Walken would be scary standing in the check-out queue at Tesco.
Yes, you’re right. Have now remembered that he was a Hessian Horseman. I think he could well live in your tree.
Magic! I just love the way trees present all sorts of patterns, faces and especially eyes.
Glad you liked it – I think this one might be a grumpy old ent.
Oh, Robin… Beautiful! I really like this one. And a big thank you!
Many thanks Malin – inspired by but nothing like as good as your work.
