Weekly Photo Challenge: Curves

I can think of only one thing when curves are mentioned – she is all curves, there is not a straight line on her body.  My wife calls her The Beloved because she gets more attention – not true, they get the same.  It is the masterpiece of Richard Rackham and Julian Thomson, the Series 1 Lotus Elise which echoes my teenage passions – the Lola T70, the Ginetta G12, the Chevron B8 and the Ferrari Dino, every one a curvaceous two seater, mid-engined, rear wheel drive, engineering marvel.

She spends much of her life under wraps on trickle charge and never goes out in the rain – Pam might have a point:

Lotus Elise

Lotus Elise Lotus Elise Lotus EliseThe Series II Elise is a fine machine too but its harsher lines betray Rackham and Thomson’s original intentions.  Click on the images to enlarge.

Well now you’ve done it. You’ve got the Team Leader’s attention well and truly, and he’s not even a blogger. In his heyday, before the advent of Nosy Writer, he was the owner of such a curvaceous creation. He speaks with nostalgia of the days when he summoned his best chums to ‘Lotus lifting parties’ on the front lawn – since the whole superstructure, he tells me, can be lifted from the chassis. He says your photos do the makers proud.

Glad the Team Leader enjoyed it, definitely a post for the ‘boys’. I always wanted a car with a Lotus badge on it because of my teenage obsession with Jim Clark – gone 45 years and still influencing the sale of cars to chaps of a certain age. My downfall came when these guys opened up down the road in Hexham – http://www.tvr-hhc.co.uk/ – the Team Leader might enjoy some window shopping 🙂

Lovely curvey photos, and the second shot looks like she has eyes looking bashfully up at your camera!

Many thanks – she may look bashful but she is also armed and dangerous 🙂

A pleasure – some very interesting posts – glad to have found you.
Pam has nothing to fear from the Elise…….but the motorbike, well, that’s another matter altogether 🙂

Beautiful shots! I have a 1997 S1 in New Aluminium – I think the same as yours? I sometimes find myself going to the garage at night just to look at it. The fact it also drives incredibly well is a bonus. It’s beautiful to the bone, the S1.

    • northumbrianlight · August 20, 2013

Thanks Rob – “beautiful to the bone” – absolutely right – I also find regular excuses to pop out to the garage 🙂 Mine is one of the 135s, no.17 of the first batch of 50. The previous owner spotted the car the other day and introduced himself – he regrets selling it despite having an Exige to replace it.
